APPLICATION AND USE OF LIBRARY SOFTWARE: A SURVEY OF SELECTED CENTRAL UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES OF NORTH INDIA

Abstract


In India, Central University Libraries are currently at various stages of
advancement in the use of information and communication technology. The
study is a survey of selected central university libraries of North India that
presents use and application of library software. For the study; five oldest
central university libraries have been selected according to establishment year.
Under the study are Allahabad University, Banaras Hindu University, University
of Delhi, Aligarh Muslim University and Jamia Millia Islamia. It describes library
software used in the libraries, services being provide through automation
software, modules and areas covered in library automation, impact of software
in libraries, compatibility and capability of library Software, indexing and
searching abilities, etc. Further the paper reflects current trends and future
plans relating to the use of IT in libraries under study.
